How to Read a Growth Intelligence Report in Five Minutes

5 min read Owners and managers who received a monthly report and don't know where to start.

A report you don't know how to read is a report you'll stop opening. This is the reading order we teach new clients on their first monthly walk-through.

Minute 1: the top line

One sentence at the top summarizes the month. Read it. That's the story. Everything below it is evidence.

Minute 2: the two arrows

Every report has two arrows — one pointing to the thing that moved most in a good direction, one to the thing that moved most in a bad direction. Read the sentence attached to each. You now know where to celebrate and where to look.

Minute 3: the theme block

A short list of themes pulled from the month's reviews and private feedback, ranked by frequency. Read the top three. Skip the tail.

Minute 4: the recommended actions

Two or three actions, written for a manager. Pick one. Assign it before the end of the day. That's how the report converts to work.

Minute 5: the compare view

A quick glance at how you moved against your local competitive set. Not to obsess over — just to know where the wind is.

A report is only intelligence if it ends in a decision. Five minutes is enough.
